The Mind/Body Disconnect

samsaranmusing:

In the mid twentieth century science was amazed to discover that when people received transplants the transplanted organs took on characteristics of the old organs.  Our minds somehow transformed the new organ.  It seems, so we have discovered, that there is a powerful subconscious connection between our mind’s image of our body and our body itself.  In Western culture we tend to disconnect from our bodies so our body image does not really reflect our actual physical makeup.  We can through yogic techniques reacquire an accurate body image and use our will to bring it into conformity to our mental image.  Now, this is not to say that if you imagine yourself thin you can eat what you want and not gain weight.

This is physics. If you take in more than you use you will store the excess.  No, what this means is that you will be in tune with your body.  You will know when to stop eating.  You will know when you need vitamin C or D because you will desire certain foods.  You will know when you have eaten too much fat because you will feel it.  Some yogis are so attuned that they can change their metabolism and fast for days without discomfort.  It is not nearly so difficult as it sounds.  Another benefit to this is that you will be able to detect danger signs for stroke or heart disease just by sensing the disharmony in your physical being. Sound outrageous?  Well, this technique is being taught to heart patients in clinics around the world.  Why? Because it works.
